Tom Fox
Tom Fox is a founder and CEO of New York Water Taxi, an innovative waterborne transportation service linking neighborhoods, parks and cultural attractions on New York Harbor and the Hudson River. Over the past 25 years, he has designed and implemented scores of waterfront and park projects and programs in the non-profit, public and private sectors. He founded and spearheaded the Neighborhood Open Space Coalition’s efforts to establish New York City's first comprehensive open space policy and played a leadership role in the passage of New York State's 1986 Environmental Quality Bond Act. He directed the design of the award-winning 40-mile Brooklyn/Queens Greenway which was featured in National Geographic and was a co-founder of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition.
Tom was appointed to both the West Side Task Force and the West Side Waterfront Panel where he played a leadership role in planning the future of Manhattan’s West Side waterfront. As the first president of the Hudson River Park Conservancy, he established this unique City/State Authority, secured $200 million in funding for the Park, engaged the adjacent communities in completing the Concept and Financial Plan for the Park and facilitated public and private sector projects, including a public boat house, bicycle and pedestrian path and the $120 million Chelsea Piers Complex.
Tom was a Gunners Mate in the United States Navy, serving two in-country tours of duty in Vietnam from 1966 through 1968. He is a published author and photographer who received numerous appointments and awards. He currently serves on the board of directors, or advisory committees, of the State Council on Waterways, Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, Friends of the Hudson River Park, Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and InterFerry.
He received a B.S. in Biology from Brooklyn College and, in 1988, was appointed a Loeb Fellow in Advanced Environmental Design, at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.
