Support Friends

Why support Friends?

WE LEVERAGE
YOUR SUPPORT

Friends is the only organization dedicated to the entire Hudson River Park, and we are the voice of Park neighbors and Park users from all five boroughs of New York City.

We need your help to secure $200 million more to complete the Park and ensure an unbroken greenway from 59th to Chambers Streets.

Friends is committed to securing annual funding for the Park’s ongoing operations and maintenance so that Hudson River Park is never allowed to deteriorate from neglect.

Thus far, our tireless advocacy has ensured that progress in the Park remains on track, and Friends has won legal actions to ensure that construction of Hudson River Park continues.  However, without sufficient funding, shovel ready projects in the Park may not move forward.  We need you to help us complete the Park New Yorkers and visitors deserve.

Your support also allows us to partner with other organizations, including the Hudson River Park Trust, so that Friends is able to provide a full season of free and low-cost public programming throughout the Park.

Newest Park Section Opens, Featuring Skate Park, Carousel and Garden supported by Friends

Friends Executive Director, A. J. Pietrantone, presents check to Hudson River Park Trust Chair, Diana Taylor, for $25,500

Friends of Hudson River Park helped celebrate the opening of the newest section of Hudson River Park on the Chelsea waterfront at Piers 62 and 63 in Chelsea on May 17, with a large crowd of visitors and public officials including Governor David Paterson and Council Speaker Christine Quinn. At the ceremony, A.J. Pietrantone, executive director of Friends, presented a $25,500 check to the Hudson River Park Trust to maintain the new garden for a year.

“Friends’ advocacy efforts are helping to guarantee that the Park is completed and that adequate maintenance and operating funds are always made available to current and newly opening sections,” said Pietrantone. “This contribution is a small down payment on our commitment to ensure that Hudson River Park always looks as good as it does on opening day.”

The opening was featured in two reports in The New York Times, as well as in Chelsea Now, and the Downtown Express.
